Getting Over a Breakup
Ending a relationship up can be extremely difficult, and I’m here with some quick advice to help you when getting over a breakup.
Some would rank it up there with a death in the family, the emotions can be that intense.
While there’s no overnight formula to getting over a breakup, these 5 critical steps will go a long way towards healing your heart.
1. Stay Distracted - This last thing you want is lots of time by yourself. Go out of your way to schedule activities, make plans with friends, try new things, work overtime… anything to keep your mind from wandering. While this isn’t a long term healthy way to live, it will help you power through this tough few weeks and months ahead. It’s some quick-fix breakup help to get you through the tough first few days.

You might also get the added benefit of a new hobby or perspective on life. Consider volunteering at a homeless shelter or soup kitchen, you will quickly realize that others have it worse then you, and this will stir the gratitude for the blessings you have in your life.
2. Get Out of Town – Nothing changes your mindset like some fresh scenery. Even if you just take a short weekend trip somewhere, you can be sure new surroundings will help you. TIP: Do not go alone! Get a few close friends or family members together and plan a fun weekend. There won’t be any external reminders of your ex, and you can start to create new, happy memories on your own.
3. Easy Now - Don’t do anything you’ll regret next week or next year. We all work so hard on our reputation, and one stupid act can unravel it. It is so tempting to lash out with an angry word, email, or text message, but don’t do it! The relief you feel will be very temporary, and soon after feelings of guilt, regret, and stupidity will creep in. You’re already feeling bad enough as it is, don’t add to your burden. If you feel like you’re about to go over the edge, call someone. Call you friend, call your Mom, do whatever you have to. Getting over a breakup means not getting set back by stupid mistakes.
4. Purge the Poison - Your head is filled with negative emotions, and one of the best ways to get them out is to write them down. Don’t EVER send these emails or letters to anyone (especially your ex), but know that writing these feelings down frees you of them.
5. Approach Forgiveness - You will not be able to do this immediately, but at some point you will not want the angry and hateful emotions to hang over you any more. They only way to truly be at peace with your ex (and yourself) is to forgive them. It takes alot of courage to forgive, but once you do you’ll realize the sense of peace you get is worth it.
Remember that your Ex may not be an evil person just because it didn’t work out between you. As cliche as it sounds, the struggles that we endure really do make as stronger. So hang in there, and be prepared for the better person you will be on the other side of this mountain and finsih getting over an ex. Maybe, just maybe, if you are really meant to be with this person, you can reconcile the relationship. I sincerely hope this advice for getting over a breakup has helped you!
